What it is

A hologram adds an authentication feature to a tamper evident label. It answers a different question: tamper evidence tells you whether the pack was opened, a hologram helps confirm that the label itself is yours.

Holograms can be created specifically for you, or a stock wallpaper hologram design can be used where a bespoke origination is not warranted.

What happens when the label is disturbed

This is an option applied to a permanent tamper evident label, not a different kind of evidence. The label still works the same way: lifting it breaks the face, leaves the hidden message and adhesive behind on the surface, and the label cannot be put back looking as it did. The option below changes what is printed, numbered or verified — not the tamper mechanism.

Before you specify

  • Decide who verifies the hologram and how they are trained — an unverified feature adds cost, not security
  • Bespoke origination has a lead time and a minimum volume; confirm both early
  • Confirm the hologram area against the void message area so the two do not compete for space
