What it is

Barcodes and QR codes let a sealed pack be scanned into your own system, so the seal becomes a data capture point as well as tamper evidence.

Codes can be printed on the surface and, if wanted, inside the void message of liner-less permanent labels.

What happens when the label is disturbed

This is an option applied to a permanent tamper evident label, not a different kind of evidence. The label still works the same way: lifting it breaks the face, leaves the hidden message and adhesive behind on the surface, and the label cannot be put back looking as it did. The option below changes what is printed, numbered or verified — not the tamper mechanism.

Specification and options

Product family Custom & Speciality Permanent Labels
1D symbologies Code 39 and Code 128
2D symbologies QR (Quick Response) codes
Print position Surface printed, and in the void message on liner-less permanent labels on request
Verification All barcodes produced are scanned, verified and tested as part of the TamperTech ISO quality system

Fields are stated only where verified. Sizes, quantities and artwork are confirmed per order line.

Typical applications

  • Scanning sealed cartons into a despatch or receipt system
  • Linking a sealed asset to a service or inspection record
  • A revealed code in the void message that only becomes scannable once the seal is broken

Before you specify

  • Confirm the symbology your scanners expect before artwork
  • Allow adequate quiet zone and code size for the scan distance and surface curvature
  • Tell us what the code should encode — a static URL, a serial, or a number that varies per label

Tell us the pack, the closure and the environment. We will confirm whether this line is the right one, point you to a better fit if it is not, and test it on your own pack.

You do not need to know which construction you need. Describe the problem and the Security Lab will specify it. Prefer to talk first? Contact the team.
