It is worth separating the two jobs this product does, because they are not the same thing. The RFID inlay handles identification and tracking — it gives the pack a unique digital identity your scanners and WMS can read. It does not, on its own, make a pack tamper evident. The evidence comes from the label construction: the adhesive and face material chosen so that any attempt to lift or reposition the label leaves a permanent, visible VOID message or residue pattern behind. Adding a chip to an ordinary label gives you traceability without evidence; adding a chip to a tamper evident construction gives you both.
Choosing the right construction to carry the RFID inlay
Decide the evidence mechanism first, then the format:
- Permanent tamper evident labels — the VOID message transfers permanently onto the pack surface. Use where the evidence must stay on the carton or device after any interference.
- Non-residue tamper evident labels — the evidence appears on the label itself and leaves the surface clean. Use on returnable assets, medical devices and finished goods where residue is unacceptable.
- Paper tamper evident labels — a recyclable paper-based route where packaging policy rules out film.
- Thermal transfer tamper evident labels — if you also need to print variable data, serial numbers or barcodes in house alongside the RFID data.
