Choosing a tape
Which tamper evident tape should you use?
Every tape here seals a carton. What separates them is the signal left behind, who is expected to read it, and whether the outer has to stay in one paper recycling stream. Work through the four decisions below and the specification usually resolves itself.
1. What should the tape leave behind?
- Full transfer (permanent) — the security message transfers onto the carton when the tape is lifted, so the evidence stays with the pack even if the tape is removed and discarded. This is what most people mean by VOID tape, and it is held in stock as standard full transfer VOID tape.
- Non-transfer / clean removal — the message stays on the tape and the surface is left unmarked. Right where the outer is reused or must not be marked.
- If the carton is discarded after opening, transfer behaviour matters less than whether the receiver notices at all — which is the next decision.
2. Who reads the seal — and where?
- Overt — the security message is visible on the roll and again after removal. An untrained receiver, a customer or a courier can spot interference without being briefed.
- Covert — nothing obvious on the roll; the message appears only on removal. Suited to checks made by your own trained team rather than in public view.
- Overt deters. Covert detects. Where a pack passes through third-party hands and is then checked internally, the two are often specified together on different closures.
3. Paper or film carrier?
- Film — the predictable choice for moisture, wash-down, chilled transit and automatic case sealers, with the widest range of standard widths, lengths and stock colours.
- Paper — for outers that must stay in a single paper recycling stream, or where a packaging specification calls for a paper-based seal. Tears by hand without a blade.
- Paper is a recycling and handling decision. It is not, by itself, a higher level of security — the tamper evidence still comes from the message revealed on removal.
4. Does the seal need to be identifiable?
- Sequential numbering — pairs the seal with a recorded number, so a whole roll swapped for a similar one is detectable, not just a lifted seal.
- Custom security message and print — your own wording, brand or warning in the transferred message, printed as UV flexographic spot colour to a Pantone reference.
- Continuous perforated — lengths torn to the pack without cutting tools on the bench.
- Numbering only carries weight where the number is captured at seal and verified at receipt.

Tamper evident tape evidences interference with the seal. It does not certify the contents, count or condition of a carton, and it is not tamper-proof — the value is a clear, checkable signal that cannot be quietly undone.

Terminology
Anti tamper, tamper proof, tamper evident: the same requirement
Buyers search for anti tamper tape, anti tamper labels and tamper proof tape. In almost every case that is the same requirement we describe as tamper evident: a seal that cannot be lifted and put back without leaving a visible, permanent record. Tamper evident is the accurate description, because a tape or a label does not prevent access to a pack — it makes access impossible to hide. Full transfer
The film lifts and a VOID or custom security message transfers into the carton or pallet wrap as well as staying on the tape. Both surfaces carry the record, so it reads at a glance on the pack.

Non-residue
The message appears on the tape only and nothing is left on the surface underneath. Used where the pack, container or asset must not be marked.

Paper carrier
A kerbside-recyclable paper tape with a dry-peel VOID reveal, for cartons that have to go into paper recycling whole.
