Choosing a label
Which tamper evident label should you use?
The constructions above differ in one decisive way: what is left behind when the label is removed. Start from the surface and the workflow, not from a product code.
1. Should the evidence stay on the pack, or on the label?
- Permanent — the VOID or custom security message transfers onto the surface, so the evidence remains on the pack after the label is removed and thrown away.
- Non-residue — the label lifts cleanly, the message stays on the label, and the surface is left unmarked. The used label itself becomes the record.
- Reusable assets, cabinets, trolleys, vehicles and returnable totes usually want non-residue. Single-trip cartons and consumer packs usually want permanent.
2. Film or paper?
- Film — for moisture, handling, abrasion, chilled and outdoor conditions, and for the widest range of standard sizes and stock colours.
- Paper — where the pack must stay in one paper recycling stream, or a packaging specification calls for paper. TamperTech permanent paper labels reveal a clean dry-peel VOID message; they are not a fibre-tear label.
- Paper changes the carrier and the recycling stream, not the level of security.
3. Visible warning, or hidden check?
- Overt — the message is visible before and after removal, so anyone receiving the pack can see interference without training.
- Covert — the label looks plain until removal reveals the message, which suits internal checks rather than public-facing deterrence.
- Where a pack is sealed by you, handled by others and checked by you again, both are often used — one to deter, one to confirm.
4. Does the label have to identify the seal?
- Sequential numbers and barcodes — so a seal can be logged at closure and verified at receipt. A dual number tab lets the number be retained while the label stays on the pack.
- Custom print and security message — your own wording or brand in the transferred message, printed as UV flexographic spot colour to a Pantone reference.
- Print on demand — where variable data must be produced in house, thermal transfer stock is available in both tamper constructions.
Before the specification is fixed

A disturbed label shows the seal was interfered with. It does not confirm what is inside the pack, or that nothing was accessed by another route. These are tamper-evident constructions, not tamper-proof — and numbering is only evidence when it is recorded and checked.

What are the Non Residue Tamper Evident Label Product Codes?

X2005: sin residuos y con contorno sin relleno, diseñado para su aplicación en materiales de alta energía superficial, como puertas de automóviles y surtidores de combustible, ya que no deja residuos al retirarlo.

What are the Permanent Tamper Evident Label Product Codes?
PL – ¡Las etiquetas permanentes de transferencia total a prueba de manipulaciones son imposibles de retirar! Las etiquetas permanentes pueden llevar números y/o códigos de barras en la superficie o bajo la superficie.

Terminology
Anti tamper, tamper proof, tamper evident: the same requirement
Buyers search for anti tamper tape, anti tamper labels and tamper proof tape. In almost every case that is the same requirement we describe as tamper evident: a seal that cannot be lifted and put back without leaving a visible, permanent record. Tamper evident is the accurate description, because a tape or a label does not prevent access to a pack — it makes access impossible to hide. Permanent
The label stays put and reveals a dry-peel VOID or custom security message when it is lifted. The strongest visual record where marking the surface is acceptable.

Non-residue
Lifting shows the message on the label and leaves the surface clean, for returnable assets, retail packs and finished goods.

Overt or covert
The reveal can be plainly visible to anyone handling the pack, or only visible under UV or a specific light, where you would rather not advertise the check.

Most “security seal” requirements we are sent are label or tape seals applied to a pack, container or closure. Start from what needs sealing:
